Carol Capuano
Hi, my name is Carol Capuano, and I am a stay-at-home mom. As a native of Colorado, I am a proud mother of three. My daughter Clarissa happens to have Down syndrome, and as her mother, I have learned so much about love, resilience, and the beauty of embracing life’s unique challenges. My journey as a mom has been filled with joy and growth, and I am incredibly grateful for my family.

What motivated you to Co-Chair this year’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show?
Carol: My daughter Clarissa, who happens to have Down syndrome, and being part of an event that celebrates diversity, inclusion and beauty in all its forms is incredibly important to me. I want to create a world where Clarissa, and others like her, are seen, valued, and celebrated for who they are.
Dominic: A call to duty. This organization is amazingly impactful to the Down syndrome community and potentially to the rest of the world. The work being done by GLOBAL is transformational, and I am excited and proud to do everything I can to help them do their work.
What can we expect at this year’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show?
Carol: It will be an incredible celebration of diversity, confidence, and beauty. You can expect to see our amazing kiddos walking down the runway, showing off their unique personalities and charm. It's an inspiring event that showcases not only fashion but also the strength and joy of every individual, including our kids, who light up the stage with their energy and smiles.
Dominic: The Party of the year, mixed with feel good moments you will never forget.
What about the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s work inspires you?
Carol: The Global Down Syndrome Foundation works tirelessly to save lives and dramatically improve health outcomes for people with Down syndrome through medical care, research, education, and advocacy. Their focus on precision medicine ensures that individuals with Down syndrome receive the specialized care they deserve. Additionally, their efforts in educating the public and pushing for policy changes create a more inclusive world, offering opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome to lead fuller, heathier lives. Their work not only impacts the Down syndrome community but also brings hope and progress to families like mine.
Dominic: Unwavering passion from the top down to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome and the incredible results achieved by one organization. Awe inspiring.
There are a lot of worthwhile, not-for-profit events and causes. Why should someone support this one?
Carol: There are indeed many worthy causes but supporting the Global Down Syndrome Foundation is truly impactful because they focus on an underserved community that faces significant health disparities. Their work directly improves the lives of individuals with Down syndrome through cutting-edge research, specialized medical care, and advocacy for policy change. What sets them apart is their focus on advancing scientific breakthroughs that can lead to longer, healthier lives for people with Down syndrome. By supporting the Foundation, you're not only empowering individuals but also contributing to a more inclusive and compassionate society.
Dominic: Impact. A fundraiser that raises approximately $2.6 million gross, powers an organization that is responsible for increasing funding for research into Down syndrome and Alzheimer's by $80,000,000. Your $1,000 donation multiplies by over 30 times.
What do you hope for people with Down syndrome and their families in the future?
Carol: I hope for more awareness and resources that will make our journey smoother and understanding from society, so that people with Down syndrome are recognized not just for their differences, but for their contributions, talents, and potential. I envision a future where medical advances continue to improve health outcomes, allowing individuals with Down syndrome to live longer, healthier, and more independent lives.
Dominic: I want the life expectancy of people with Down syndrome to approach the lives of typical people. I want people with Down syndrome to not get Alzheimer's disease as early as their 40s. I want acceptance of people with Down syndrome by society, not just tolerance. And I want a world that knows the facts about Down syndrome.
Please share a sentence or two about your life, including what is important to you, and anything else you would like to share with others.
Carol: I'm a mom to a child who happens to have Down syndrome. I truly love and joy my life. It's been an incredible journey filled with love, growth, and excitement, especially with Clarissa around. I'm also incredibly grateful for Michelle and the entire team at the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. They are not only dedicated, but they also go to battle for our kids, serving as powerful advocates and voices for the Down syndrome community.
Dominic: I love my family and feel so very blessed to have found this amazing community. I take great pleasure in helping other people enjoy their lives. That’s just another reason why I love supporting the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.
