Pittsburgh native Joe Manganiello is a diversely talented actor whose range can be seen throughout his career, especially in his latest batch of projects. Joe most recently starred opposite Paul Reubens in the Netflix comedy PEE WEE’S BIG HOLIDAY, and will next be heard as the voice of the heroic and lovable ‘Hefty Smurf’ in Sony Pictures Animation’s SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE, to be released in April 2017. Manganiello will then star in Warner Brother’s Rampage where a primatologist must fight his way through an ever-changing battlefield to halt global catastrophe.

In 2012, Joe starred in Steven Soderbergh’s cultural phenomenon MAGIC MIKE (Warner Bros). Stemming from his research for the role, Joe decided to get behind the camera to self-finance and direct the documentary LA BARE, about the oldest male strip club in the United States. The film premiered at Slamdance in 2014 and was sold that same evening. The documentary can currently be viewed on Netflix and Showtime. For his work, Joe was awarded the Triple Threat Award at the 2014 Maui International Film Festival. The following summer, he reunited with his MAGIC MIKE castmates to star in the film’s sequel, MAGIC MIKE XXL.

A star athlete since childhood, Joe surprised his family and friends when he decided to steer off the paved road to professional athletics and instead become an actor. Not one to do anything halfheartedly, he resolved to learn all he could about the craft before pursuing a full time acting career, enrolling in the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama where he ultimately earned his BFA in acting. Joe periodically returns to his theater roots, playing ‘Leo Belraggio’ in the 2010 west coast premiere of Terrence McNally’s UNUSUAL ACTS OF DEVOTION, a role he workshopped with the legendary writer at the Ojai Playwrights’ Festival the summer prior. In fall 2013, he portrayed the iconic ‘Stanley Kowalski’ in Tennessee William’s “A Streetcar Named Desire” at the Yale Repertory Theater.

Simon & Schuster published Joe’s first book, Evolution in December 2013. In it, Joe shares a lifetime of experience and research on diet, cardio, and anatomy that led him to be named one of Men’s Health’s 100 Fittest Men of All Time.

Joe was previously best known for playing the fan-favorite character ‘Alcide Herveaux,’ a protective big-hearted werewolf on HBO’s critically acclaimed series “True Blood.” Prior to joining the cast of “True Blood,” he was seen in a variety of television roles. He showed off his comedic chops on several seasons of the Emmy Award-winning CBS show “How I Met Your Mother” and recurred on The CW drama “One Tree Hill” for three seasons. On the big screen, Joe starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sam Worthington in David Ayer’s action drama SABOTAGE, appeared in the ensemble comedy film WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING, and portrayed Peter Parker’s nemesis ‘Flash Thompson’ in Sam Raimi’s SPIDERMAN.

Joe currently resides in Los Angeles.
