My name is Charlotte Fonfara-LaRose, but my friends call me Charley. I am a 16-year-old high school sophomore from Annapolis, Maryland!

I have a sister Noelle and a big extended family! My parents, Cathy and Scott, are really fortunate to have me. When I was born, I surprised everyone with an extra chromosome. Despite the somber tone at the hospital, I left there happy and healthy, ready to start my great life.

There have been a few challenges along the way (I had two holes in my heart…what the heck?) There have been other challenges too, but who doesn’t have something or the other? I work hard with many medical specialists, including physical therapy and speech, to make sure nothing holds me back!

Since then, I have been thriving and loving life! As a child I modeled for Target and now I am one fun-loving teenager who thrives on being the center of attention. I have walked on the catwalk five times at Global’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show and love to be in the spotlight. I have even met celebrities like Jamie Foxx, Colin Farrell, and Jeremy Renner! And if you have ever seen me on the dance floor, you know I can really dance the night away! Some day you might even see me on “Dancing With The Stars.”

I love my high school where I have class with my boyfriend Zach and all of my typical developing peers! When we’re not at school, we like to go swimming or to sushi for date night. During summer break, I like to travel. I have been to over 10 countries!

Overall I’m pretty healthy but I know that the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s scientists are working to help all people with Down syndrome! My family and I hope you will support Global’s amazing life-changing science and medical care.

I’m proud to be an Ambassador for the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show and support the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. I’m excited about my future. Someday I plan to attend college, open my own bagel shop, and travel the world! That is my story, so far…
