Sofia Sanchez is a Ukrainian American actress, model, author, and advocate. She first became known seven years ago for her viral video “Down Syndrome is Not Scary.” Sofia had her acting debut in the 2015 television series Switched at Birth and her first movie role came in the 2022 short film For Paloma.
In the summer of 2023, Sofia’s star shone even brighter with her appearance at the Barbie movie premiere, where she dressed as the first-ever Barbie with Down syndrome. Her presence on the pink carpet earned her a place on the best-dressed lists across major reporting channels. She was also invited to help launch Mattel’s first Barbie with Down syndrome.
This past November 2023, Sofia appeared in theaters across the country playing Wovey in her first major motion picture, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Her shining performance stole everyone’s heart. Her adoption story inspired three of her published Scholastic books You are Enough and You are Loved, and a third book, You are Brave, released April 2024. Also in April of this year, she was the youngest person with Down syndrome to take the stage and present a TED Talk on “The Power of Bravery” now on YouTube.
You may also recognize her face in past Old Navy print and Target commercial ads but what you remember most is her vibrant personality the moment you meet her. You can follow her at www.sofia-sanchez.com or @the.sofia.sanchez on Instagram.
